Welcome/Aims and Broadfield Way

On 1st January 2008 Broadfield Primary School opened in Hemel Hempstead. The new school was the result of a merger between Broadfield Infant and Broadfield Junior Schools and has brought the best from both schools to the children and families of the Adeyfield community.

Broadfield School originally opened in 1955 and occupies a large, pleasant site in a residential area. Broadfield is a maintained school for children from 3 to 11 years. There are 15 roomy, permanent classrooms each with its own cloakroom, toilets and craft work area, two halls and two dining rooms served by a central kitchen.  The school is fortunate to be situated in generous grounds with two large playgrounds, a Foundation Stage outdoor area and a substantial sports field which is available for outdoor lessons and games.

The school’s admission number is 60, which allows for two classes in each year group.  In April 2010 there were 465 pupils on roll, organised into 16 classes including morning and afternoon Nursery classes.

The school is proud of its state-of-the-art ICT Suite, sensory garden, cookery room, vegetable garden, story garden and nature area which was opened in May 2011.

The teaching staff comprises the Headteacher & Deputy Headteacher and around 20 full-time and part-time teachers. The class teachers work in pairs to plan and coordinate the curriculum for each age group. They are supported by a large team of nursery nurses and teaching assistants some of whom have also been trained to teach whole classes for small periods.

Broadfield is the lead agency for the Windmill Children’s Centre which serves the Adeyfield, Highfield and St Paul’s areas.  The Children’s Centre, managed by Caroline Keeler, works with the local community, other childcare providers, health professionals, faith groups, charities and other agencies to provide a lively timetable of activities both on the Windmill Children’s Centre site and at other locations in the Children’s Centre area. The main entrance to the school is on Windmill Road. The new reception area, offices and library were completed in 2009.

"If you visit the school you’ll experience a very positive atmosphere marked by an ethos where everyone genuinely matters. We have a super staff who work really well together to help every child to work towards achieving their potential. If you'd like to arrange a visit, please contact the school office to arrange an appointment."

“We aspire to enable our children to mature into confident, self-assured, caring individuals who achieve their full potential and develop a life-long love of learning.”

To achieve our vision, the school will:

  • Encourage, value and extend every child’s contribution
  • Recognise and celebrate success in everyone
  • Provide an enriched education which meets the needs of every child

We expect the very highest standard of behaviour at Broadfield Primary School and are proud to encourage qualities such as good manners, thoughtfulness, honesty and hard work. The Broadfield Way is displayed around the school, referred to by all members of the school community and is distributed to every child's home.
